Learning to love yourself is the single most important thing you must do to help you find and experience love from other people too. But do you truly know how to love yourself?

As Lucille Ball once said, Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. You really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world.

I learned this the hard way. I would always compare myself to other people, especially the beautiful women of Instagram. I could only see my flaws and it got to a point where I feel I don’t deserve to be happy because of the way I look.

There were countless times that I needed to ask my friends and loved ones if I was beautiful, attractive or pretty after every selfie. It was hilarious but at the same time, it was sad because I had to seek verification and validation from other people too.

For the past three years, I never logged in to my social media profiles until three months ago, I built The Eleanor Journal blog. I never posted any selfies or shared my life online. No videos of me. No photos of me. Not even a family photo.

Until recently, something wonderful happened to me. Someone special came into my life… online that had led me to finally shared tiny bits of my life. That’s when I realize that we are all different people with different tastes, views, opinions, ideas, and perspectives in life. I am currently starting to love myself and you should too.

When you love yourself

When you love yourself first, you get to see your life much better. When you love yourself each day, you get to see and feel like you can get anything you really want – career, money, and relationships too. You are happier and you experience the fun things around you.

You gain more confidence in yourself and your career. Your relationships grow deeper and turning it into meaningful relationships. As you grow your love inside yourself, you can really see your life is getting better each passing day. Self-love is important but we see so many people struggle with loving themselves on a daily basis.

So how do you learn to love yourself more than yesterday? Here are a few ways to help you practice self-love on a daily basis.

7 Ways To Love Yourself Every Day

1.) Practice gratitude.

You must practice daily gratitude or at least have a deep appreciation of who you are. This is when you accept every part that you have such as your good qualities, traits or positive features of your body as well as your flaws or anything you deem as “unworthy” or “wrong”.

Here are a few ideas that you can do to practice self-gratitude today:

  1. Make a list of things you are grateful for.
  2. Appreciate yourself in front of the mirror but don’t be obsessed with loving yourself.
  3. Take a DIY spa.

2.) Forgive yourself.

You are your own critic and judge whether good or bad. You tend to criticize yourself just as much as people will criticize you. However, you are your own worst critic because you would still criticize the slightest detail of yourself even if nobody noticed it.

If someone has hurt you, the best way is NOT to move on but to move forward and become successful in your life. However, never consume yourself with rage and anger. You go your own way and forgive them. You must focus on yourself and your future.

3.) Live healthily.

Regular exercise, sleeping early and eating healthy foods is part of living a healthy life. Having a healthy life can only mean that you love your body as you would love yourself. Taking better care of yourself – mind and body can help you gain a better and happier mind and body. You must remember that as you are kind to your body, it will be kind to you in the future.

4.) Control negative thoughts.

Kicking or not entertaining negative thoughts is quite difficult, especially for those who are currently suffering from depression and anxiety. There is one better way for you to help get rid of negative thoughts is to have inner positive conversations with yourself.

You may also replace negative thoughts with anything positive. Having inner positive conversations can help you maintain balance on your mind because we, The Eleanor Journal believe in the law of attraction. Your thoughts can create into something either good or bad.

5.) Meditate

Besides taking care of your body, you must also take care of your mind too. We always have an excuse to be busy each day but when it comes to taking care of your mind, you must make time for meditation.

You can do yoga for at least 15 to 30 minutes a day. You can also do the mindful walking around a park near your place to connect with nature. Make a schedule to meditate every day. You can even meditate at least 5 minutes at work.

I use this meditation app called Headspace or Calm to help me relax despite having a very stressful day. These apps can help you feel more refreshed and positive at the end of the day.

6.) Write a journal.

You can express as much as you can by writing everything you love about yourself in your journal. You can express your thoughts, worries, and feelings so it could make you feel better. Once you feel better, you start to feel light and positive.

Writing a journal can help you gain clarity about who you really are as this clears every clutter you have on your mind. It can also gain acceptance of who and what you are right now as you write everything from dreams to frustrations to worries.

7.) Enjoy yourself.

Never neglect this final part! Spend time as much as you can with yourself and the people who really matter to you. Spend time with the right people who care more about who you are. Take the time to enjoy yourself by creating a DIY spa for yourself. You can watch funny movies or TV shows by yourself or with your loved ones. You can do anything that can help you enjoy yourself.

Final Point

You don’t need to wait for your body to start losing weight, getting a job, having a relationship with someone or getting a higher pay to love yourself. You must love yourself first and then the rest would follow.

If you hadn’t gotten out of your comfort zone, it’s time to burst the bubble or get out from the shadows one step at a time by writing the things that make you feel nervous such as publishing your selfies online, going to public events or roaming around the neighborhood.

If you’d think that loving yourself is selfish. It isn’t. If you are never willing to love yourself today, then you are never going to love yourself tomorrow. Loving yourself is something that we can control and choose so better choose to love yourself today as you are today.
