Imagine sitting in the corner of your room and looking at the window while the rain pours heavily. For most people, rainy days makes you feel relaxed. For some people, it makes you feel bored. For a few people like me, hearing heavy raindrops can make me feel anxious.
I used to love the rain. I would go out and play in the rain. In the last few years, I avoid hearing raindrops or waves of the ocean. Whenever I see the rain, I remember hurtful memories in my past like the time when I and my mom have almost been swept away from the flood just eight days before Christmas day.
Jumping from roof to roof so you can move to higher ground. Then you found yourself being trapped at the top of your neighbor’s rooftop while several families were screaming for help. From afar, you can’t see your house as it was covered by the mud flood. Within minutes, the flood kept rising and you can’t hear any screams for help anymore.
If you have a horrible experience in your life like that, you sometimes need to make an escape into another world. In the Philippines, the months June to October are rainy seasons but it still rains until January next year. You can actually make the most of the rainy season with an at-home spa day.
Having a spa at home especially for those who suffer from muscle soreness from a workout can greatly help you as it can eliminate tense muscles. It can also help lower your blood pressure and reduces any trigger sources such as tension, anxiety, and depression. It can also help improve your posture and circulation of the blood.
If you want to create an at-home spa without needing to break the bank and feeling even more stressful in preparing for a home spa, here are a few easy steps that you can do to have a good do-it-your-own spa at home.
Here are 7 Easy Steps To A Good DIY Spa At Home
1.) Turn into a spa mode
It’s time to set the mood by turning down the lights, lighting the candles and hearing your most relaxing playlist from your stereo. Make sure to shut off your gadgets to eliminate distractions. Now, slip into something comfortable such as a bathrobe and create an easy spa drink like coconut water.
According to Health, drinking coconut water not only helps hydrates your skin but also, reduces cholesterol, controls blood pressure and prevents kidney stones. This is a perfect after workout drink as this serves to replenish the electrolytes lost during your exercise.
2.) Brushing your tresses
Having a hair spa at home can help you keep and maintain your hair. It can help strengthen the roots of your hair. This can help reduce stress and increases the circulation of the blood.
Brush your hair with a natural-bristle brush to loosen build-up and dead skin that collect at the scalp. Massage the best oil possible depending on your hair type onto your scalp. Then, apply a deep conditioning treatment onto ends of hair strands only. After that, pin your hair back and wrap your hair around in a plastic wrap.
Here are three simple DIY hair treatments that I personally use:
1-2 tbsp of olive oil
1-2 tbsp of almond oil
Mix everything until it turns into a thick paste then apply it on your scalp and leave it for 20 to 25 minutes. Then wrap it up with a warm towel around your scalp and leave it for 15-20 minutes. After that, wash it with cold water.
1 ripe banana
1 egg white
2 tbsp of olive oil
Mix everything until it turns into a thick paste then apply the mixture on your scalp than to the lower end of your hair. Keep it on your hair for 20-30 minutes or let it dry. Wrap the warm towel around the scalp and leave it for around 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, you wash your hair with a mild shampoo.
c.) Milk and Honey
1 cup of milk
1-2 tbsp of honey
Apply the mixture on the scalp then move slowly from the roots of your hair to the lower end of the hair. Leave the mixture for about 10 to 15 minutes. Wrap a warm towel around your hair and leave for 15 to 20 minutes. After that, gently wash your hair with a mild shampoo.

3.) Have A Facial
Start your facial while having hair treatment. Exfoliate your face by doing steam facials which can help remove dead skin, dirt, and bacteria. You can also try an electric facial cleansing brush to remove more dirt and oil in your face. You can then apply a clarifying mask to draw out any remaining thick oil substance in your face.
Here is my simple DIY exfoliation facial recipe:
½ tsp of coconut oil
½ tsp of finely ground coconut beans
Mix together and apply it into my face using circular motions. I leave it for 15 minutes up to an hour then rinse off with warm water. If you want to experience that moisturized, refreshing feeling and restore a youthful glow, then try this charcoal scrub.
4.) Give yourself a body scrub at home
When you are done with your hair and facial treatment, you can hop in the shower to rinse your face and hair. Keep your skin smooth by using an exfoliating mitt.
Here is my simple DIY glowing body scrub recipe:
A ½ cup of Granulated sugar
½ cup of coconut oil
Mix together until it forms into a thick paste. Gently massage your body with the paste in circular motions for 15 minutes. After that, wash your body with lukewarm water. 5.) Time for a foot spa or detox
Soak your feet in a tub full of warm water. Try adding one cup of apple cider vinegar and soak your feet for 20 to 30 minutes not only it will deodorize your feet but also removes dead skin cells. If you want to melt away the pain, swelling, soreness, and tensions from the day-to-day pressure then try this foot spa massager.
6.) Time for a spa-like bathtub
Boil two pots or kettles of water then start running the tap water and slowly pour the boiling water into the tub. Time to soak in your bath salts or DIY bath bombs. Although bath bombs will save you time and money, I would rather buy bath salts but it’s up to you. Get into the tub and listen to the music. You can also place cucumber slices over your eyes while relaxing in the tub.

You can also follow this simple spa treatment that I personally used. This can help draw out toxins, lowers stress-related hormones and balance your ph levels. You can add a handful of Epsom or sea salts, 8-10 drops of lavender essential oil and half a cup of baking soda.
7.) Massage your skin
Once you are done with your spa, massage your skin by using a moisturizer. Take the time to massage the lotion to your skin. Then lie back and drink a cup of green tea while reading your favorite book.
These are just simple steps to follow if you want to have a good DIY spa in your own home without the need to use expensive products and even taking expensive treatments.
I hope that all of my simple DIY recipes for some treatments will help save you money and improve your health particularly the skin. You do not have to overdo or make your spa day perfect. You just really need to start and take the time to pamper yourself.
